WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army track and field will conclude regular-season competition on Friday evening at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games at The Armory in New York City. The women’s weight throw and pole vault will be the night’s first events, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., while the Black Knights’ runners are slated to hit the track at 5:25 with the 5,000-meter race. The final event of the night is set for 10:40 with the 4x400-meter relay. See below for the full schedule of events.
Army will be one of 13 teams traveling to The Armory, weather permitting. Also registered for the night’s competition are Columbia, Delaware (W), Penn, Connecticut (M), Iona, Lafayette, Rider, Rutgers, William & Mary, Lehigh, Rhode Island (M), LaSalle and Saint Joseph's.
Friday’s trip to The Armory is the second of the year for the Black Knights, who competed at the historic arena on Jan. 25 in the NYRR College Night. Senior Mark Castelli punched his postseason ticket in the 1,000-meter run that night, while the Black Knights earned first-place finishes in four events, including Castelli.
Army has recorded 27 individual IC4A and ECAC Championship-qualifying marks this season along with four relay times. The Black Knights met postseason standards in 20 events during last weekend’s Army-Navy indoor Star Meet. The Midshipmen escaped West Point with a pair wins, however, capturing the women’s meet 97-84 and the men’s meet 93-88.
Following Friday’s meet, postseason begins for Army as the Black Knights will host the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships at Gillis Field House. The three-day competition is scheduled for Feb. 15-17. Army last hosted the indoor conference meet in 2010. The 2010 league championship was also the last time the Black Knights took home a team trophy as the men edged out Bucknell that season by six points.
