Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at Larry Ellis

PRINCETON, N.J. – Army track and field wrapped up competition at the Princeton-hosted Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday evening, with the Black Knights taking home seven marks that list among the best in Academy history. The non-scoring meet featured over 2,000 entrants from over 200 schools and clubs.

For the Army men, junior Nick Snoad continued his strong outdoor season. Snoad placed sixth of 22 entrants in the hammer throw with the ninth-best toss in Academy history, 60.02 meters. The mark is the best by a Black Knight since 2004, and lists among the top 25 in the East Region this season.

For the women, the 800-meter run highlighted the two-day event as freshman Jennifer Comfort and Shalela Dowdy both captured times thank rank among the best in Army history. In a field of 54, Comfort placed 10th with a time of 2:14.66, while Dowdy followed in 11th at 2:14.86. The times list at No. 5 and No. 7, respectively, on Army’s all-time top-10 list.

Freshman Lisa Junta added her name to yet another top-10 list following her finish in the 3,000-meter run. Junta placed fourth of 28 by crossing the line in 10:04.36 to list sixth all-time at Army.

Classmate Katrina Donarski moved up Army’s 400-meter list with her 18th-place finish of 57.15. Donarski entered the meet ranked 10th all-time at the Academy and moved to ninth following Saturday’s performance.

Senior Chelsea Prahl rounded out the historical marks on the track for the Black Knights. Prahl ran the sixth-best 1,500-meter time in program history with her finish of 4:36.43. Prahl joined Junta on the 1,500m list after Junta ran the then-ninth-best time at the season-opening meet at USF.

In field events, sophomore Jessica Waggoner continued her ascend up the Army discus list. Waggoner began the weekend ranked fourth all-time and would climb to third after her throw of 47.90 meters on Saturday. The mark earned her runner-up honors in a field of 25 throwers.

The Black Knights will have a quick turnaround as qualified athletes will head to the 118th running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. Events at Franklin Field are scheduled from Wednesday through Saturday.
