WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Army freshman Nat Beale, who had a hand in breaking six Academy records and four plebe marks at last weekend's Brown Big Bear Open, was named the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday morning.
Beale, who is in the midst of an outstanding freshman campaign, broke individual school standards in the 100-yard backstroke (56.51) and 200-yard backstroke (2:00.40). The Baltimore, Md., native also shattered the Army freshman records in the backstroke events as well as the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.31) and 400 IM (4:30.17).
Beale was a member of four Army relay teams that established Academy records as well. She swam the leadoff leg on the Black Knights' 200-yard medley, 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays. The first-year standout also swam on Army's 800-yard freestyle relay.
Army's women broke eight Academy records and five plebe marks during the three-day meet. The Black Knights finished fifth as a team.
The Army swimming and diving teams return to action on Thursday, Dec. 6, when the Black Knights travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to face Navy. The annual "Star" meet is set to get under way at 6 p.m.
