WEST POINT, N.Y. -
The Army swimming and diving teams will return to action this weekend when the Black Knights travel to Providence, R.I., to participate in the Brown Big Bear Open. The three-day event begins on Friday, Nov. 30, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 2.
The meet will be contested inside the brand-new Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center on the campus of Brown University. The event's format will mirror that of the Patriot League Championships, with morning preliminaries preceding evening finals each day. The action is slated to begin at 10 a.m. all three days.
Freshman Chris Szekely has emerged as Army's top freestyler on the men's side, having forged the Black Knights' best times in the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free. Senior Ayman Andrews continues to lead Army in the butterfly events, while freshman Sam Mo has been strong in the individual medley disciplines.
Senior Chris Nguyen, who has been named Patriot League Diver of the Week four times already this season, sets the tone for the Army men off the boards.
Freshmen Nat Beale and Molly Mucciarone have led the Black Knight women in the early going. Beale, who was tabbed Patriot League Swimmer of the Week earlier this year, has recorded Army's top times in the 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM. Mucciarone, meanwhile, boasts the Black Knights' best times in the 100 free and 100 fly.
Junior Danielle Ullman paces the Black Knight women in the diving events, having posted Army's best score off the one-meter board and second-best score off the three-meter board.
The Brown Big Bear Open will serve as Army's final tune-up before facing arch-rival Navy on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Kroc Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
