Bullard And Santana Share AAA Athlete Of The Week

WEST POINT, N.Y.- A pair of Army athletes , who earned  Rookie of the Meet honors at their respective conference championships over the weekend, were voted Army Athletic Association Co-Athletes of the Week on Monday morning.  Jose Santana earned his accolade at the Patriot League Men's Indoor Championships with Ariana Bullard claiming her title at the Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Santa enjoyed a record-setting performance in his first Patriot League meet having a hand in three wins the final day.  After breaking the school and meet marks in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.84 on Saturday, Santana lowered that mark the final day in earning his first league crown behind a clocking of 6.77. He picked up his second title after beating the field in the 400-meter dash with a winning time of 48.41 that lists sixth on Army's top 10 list. He narrowly missed the conference record of 48.36. 

Santana closed out his award-winning performances as the anchor on the 4x400 meter relay where he combined with Chris Smith, Xavier Moss and Clyde Wilson for an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:16.01.

Freshman Ariana Bullard

Bullard earned her first AAA Athlete of the week nod after the Carmel, Ind. Bullard played a part in setting five records in Leujene Hall at the Patriot League Championships in Annapolis, Md., over the weekend. Bullard began by joining three Black Knight swimmers, in which the quartet topped all competitors in the 200-yard freestyle relay and finished runner-up in the 200-yard medley relay.

On the third day of competition, Bullard set individual records of her own, breaking her previous academy and school records, set in December of 2013, in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events. Bullard took first-place in the 100-yard fly with a time of 53.40, before besting all swimmers in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:58.97. The freshman then went on to finish out the four-day event by joining her teammates to set an academy record in the 400-yard freestyle.

Santana and the track and field team return to competition March 8-9 for the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass., while the Army diving team will prepare for the NCAA Zone A Championships, which are scheduled for March 9-12, in Christiansburg, Pa.
