ANNAPOLIS, MD.  – Freshman Ariana Bullard and sophomore Molly Mucciarone highlighted the third night of the Patriot League Championships as the pair went 1-2 in the 100-yard butterfly, and were part of the 400-yard medley relay team who broke the academy record. Bullard who holds both the plebe and academy record in the event, shattered her own record from December 2013, versus Navy.  In addition, 12 Black Knights placed in the top eight of their respective events.

The Army men remain in third-place in the team standings with 406 points through three days of action. Navy has maintained its lead with 595.5 points, followed by Boston University (433). Bucknell (310) is in fourth-place, followed by Lehigh (208), Lafayette (133), American (124), Loyola (102.5), Colgate (79) and Holy Cross (61).

The Black Knight women, meanwhile, remain in fourth place with 365 points, behind Navy (525), Bucknell (431) and Boston University (385.5). Behind Army in the team standings is Colgate (227.5), followed by Lehigh (212), Loyola (176), American (126), Lafayette (89) and Holy Cross (60).

In the 17th event of the meet, Bullard swam for a record time of 53.40 in the 100 fly, breaking her own personal-best time of 53.66 for the second time in Leujene Hall this season. Following Bullard, Mucciarone posted a second-place finish with a personal best time of her own, touching the wall at 54.33. Freshman Kelly Hamilton also placed in the event for the Black Knights coming in seventh with a time of 56.10.

Following her 100 fly performance, Hamilton moved onto the 100-yard backstroke, placing fifth with a time of 56.24. Sophomore Natalie Beale added a top-eight finish in the event, posting a time of 56.30 for seventh-place.

The Army women’ continued to impress in the relays, ending the night with an academy record time of 3:43.24 in the 400 medley relay. Duo of Bullard and Mucciarone teamed up with senior Grace Hamilton and junior Krista Barta to break the previous record, set in 2012, by four seconds.

Freshman Jessica Burkett broke the plebe and academy record in the 400 IM on the third-day of competition. Burkett, who placed fifth in the event, touched the wall at 4:24.50. The previous academy record of 4:24.76 was set by Ann Marie Wycoff in 1989, while the plebe record was set by Kate Kinley (4:29.00) last season.

Senior Danielle Ullman and freshman Danielle Nuszkowski joined the winners circle for the Black Knights each placing in the top-eight of their respective events. Ullman took fifth off the 1-meter board scoring 241.30 points, while Nuszkowski (1:50.59) finished seventh in the 200 free.

On the men’s side, quartet of sophomores Sam Mo and Colin Kanzari and juniors Michael Dustin and Will Viana recorded a school record in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:17.87. The Black Knight team, who placed second behind Navy, crossed the line .40 seconds faster than the previous time set in 2013.

Kanzari and Viana both doubled in top eight-performances on the Friday, in the 100-yard breast and 400 IM, respectively. Kanzari rounded out the top eight in the 100 breast with a time of 56.12, while Viana had a fifth-place showing, posting a time of 3:56.73.

Senior Kenny Yacynych also finished in the top eight of two events on the third night of competition. Yacynych finished eighth in the 100 fly, touching the wall at 49.64, behind freshman Sean Regan (49.06) who placed third and sophomore Sam Mo (49.48) who took seventh.

Rounding out the winners for the Army men, sophomore Chris Szekely recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:37.86.

Army will conclude competition at the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, Feb. 22. The preliminaries are set for 10:30 a.m., while finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.
