FAIRFAX, Va. - The Army swimming and diving teams concluded another busy road weekend on Saturday afternoon with a triangular meet versus Patriot League rival American and non-conference foe George Mason at the Patriots' Aquatic Center.

The Army men (9-3, 3-1 PL) won 11 of the 16 events contested en route to sweeping American (1-5, 0-3 PL) and George Mason (5-3). The Black Knights cruised past the Eagles, 234-66, and defeated the host Patriots (183-117).

The Army women (6-7, 2-2 PL) collected three victories out of the 16 events on their way to a split of the triangular meet. The Black Knights beat American (1-6, 0-3 PL), 240-47, but fell to George Mason (4-5), 165-135.

Senior Ayman Andrews, junior Kenny Yacynych and freshman Chris Szekely each had a hand in three victories to lead the Army men.

"I think our men's team learned a lot from yesterday's meet and came out today ready to go," said Army head coach Mickey Wender. "I was extremely pleased with the attitude, energy and execution that our men's team brought to the pool today.

"I was also very happy with the way our women's team fought and competed throughout the meet," added Wender. "We went up against a very good George Mason team, but we gave them everything they could handle. I saw a dramatic improvement from yesterday's meet."

Individually, Andrews swept the butterfly events, taking gold in the 100 fly (49.77 seconds) and 200 fly (1:52.35). The fourth-year standout began the meet by teaming with Yacynych, sophomore Joon Chung and senior Dan Foky to win the 400-yard medley relay in a clocking of 3:26.62.

Yacynch helped Army sweep the relay events, teaming with Szekely, Foky and sophomore Casey Woudenberg to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:07.81.

Yacynych also won the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 51.96. Szekely, meanwhile, continued to impress in the freestyle events, winning the 50 free (21.34) and 100 free (46.95).

Chung chipped in an individual victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning the event with a time of 58.39. Sophomore Will Viana rounded out Army's list of winners in the pool, taking gold in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.17).

Army also swept the diving events on the men's side with sophomore Josh Urnezis winning the one-meter discipline (303.65 points) and senior Chris Nguyen winning off the three-meter board (342.35).

"Chris (Szekely) really stepped up in the sprint events, and to see him win the 50 free was impressive," said Wender. "Ayman (Andrews) turned in another solid effort for us in the butterfly events as well, but I was most proud of Kenny (Yacynych). I thought he came up with a real breakthrough performance."

Freshman Molly Mucciarone and sophomore Sam Allen won individual events to spark the Black Knight women. Mucciarone outswam the field in the 50 free, touching the wall in 24.26, while Allen was first in the 200 breast (2:30.04).

Army capped the meet by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay as the foursome of junior Grace Hamilton, junior Juliette Wallerstein, sophomore Kristen Barta and freshman Natalie Beale combined to clock a time of 3:36.79.

The Army women also recorded 11 runner-up finishes, including two each by Allen, Barta, Beale and Hamilton.

"I was especially pleased with the way Kristen (Barta) swam today," said Wender. "Her improvement and progress has been significant over the course of the season. Sam (Allen) had a nice day as well."

The Black Knights return to West Point on Saturday, Jan. 26, to host Patriot League foes Colgate and Lafayette at Crandall Pool. The meet, which will serve as Army's home finale, is slated to begin at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Black Knights and the senior members of the Army teams will be honored prior to the first events.

Meet Notes: The Army men improve to 11-1 all-time versus American and 8-0 all-time opposite George Mason ... the Black Knight women are now 9-2 all-time versus American and 0-7-1 all-time against George Mason.
