Sophomore Michael Matthews captured the Men's 50m Smallbore Three-Position at the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships (NJOSC) to earn a spot on the National Junior Team earlier in the week at the Olympic Training Center.
Matthews recorded an 1160 and 1169 for a 2329 composite to head into the finals with a 14-point lead over his closest competitor. Teammate Joseph Todaro (2297) was also among the finalists, and the two outshot the field tying with each other for the highest mark of 95.6.
Matthews won the gold medal with 2424.6 total points and took third in the Men's 50m Prone after edging Spencer Upham for the bronze by just three-tenths of a point posting a 1287.4 composite after both entered the final with 1186 match points. Todaro placed sixth in the Men's Three-Position with 2392.6 points.
