COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Army rifle team's hope of closing out its fall campaign on a winning note fell short as the Black Knights (2-3) suffered a 4655-4645 defeat to host Ohio State at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range Saturday.

Senior All-American Joseph Todaro captured medalist honors in smallbore behind a career-best 586 to turn in Army's top performance of the match.

Army fired a 2313 mark in smallbore as three members of the squad set or tied personal bests. Joining Todaro was sophomore Olivia Nardone with a career-high 573 and freshman Allen Solida equaling his personal best 581 in placing fourth overall.

Rounding out Army's scoring unit in smallbore were Todaro, Michael Matthews (578), Alyssa Gestl (576) and Nardone as the Black Knights posted their second highest team score of the season to trail Ohio State, who set a school mark 2317, by just four points

All-American Richard Calvin led Army's contingent in air rifle by tying for runner-up honors with OSU's Amanda Luoma after firing 585s. The Black Knights placed six shooters among the top nine in this discipline in combining for a 2332 to trail the Buckeye's 2338 by six points. Nardone and Solida shared fourth place in air rifle with 583s with Solida firing a personal best, followed by 582s posted by Matthews, Todaro and Marvin Lewis.

The loss to the Buckeyes snapped Army's two-match series win streak over Ohio State, who posted its first victory over the Black Knights since 2010-11.

Army will break for exams and the holidays, returning to action with a home meet at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center on Friday, Jan. 17, against Murray State at 3 p.m.
