MURRAY, Ky. - Sophomore Alyssa Gestl fired a 586 to finish 21st in the air rifle relay scoring the final day at the NCAA Rifle Championships where Army posted a 2336 in placing sixth in that discipline en route to finishing eighth with a 4635 composite.
Rounding out the remainder of Army's air rifle relay scoring were sophomore Olivia Nardone with a 584 followed closely by seniors Joseph Todaro and Michael Matthews posting 583s. Freshman Danielle Cuomo rounded out Army's five-man contingent with a 577 as the Black Knights' 2336 composite edged TCU (2333) for sixth place.
The Black Knights fired a 2299 in smallbore the first day with Matthews and Todaro recording respective scores of 580. Cuomo posted a 570 in that discipline and Gestl was next at 569.
West Virginia captured its second straight NCAA title claiming both team titles as it outpointed the field with a 2367 mark in air rifle and 2338 score in smallbore for a 4705 composite.
The Mountaineers outdistanced runner-up Alaska (4677) by 28 points. Kentucky was third (4675) followed by Memphis (4669) in rounding out the top half of the half of the standings.
