WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army's rifle team recorded a season-high 2352 in air rifle, but it wasn't enough as the No. 8 Black Knights fell to No. 1 Kentucky, 4697-4655, in a Great America Rifle Conference match Sunday at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.

Senior All-American Richard Calvin finished runner-up in air rifle with a 593 in trailing Kentucky's Emily Holsopple's winning mark of 595. Calvin's score was just two shy of his personal best (595) that he tied Friday against Murray State.

Senior All-American Joseph Todaro opened the meet posting Army's top score in smallbore (584) that earned him third place honors. The Army team captain set a personal best 590 in air rifle in recording the second highest score in that discipline by a Black Knight that earned him fifth place.

Sophomore Alyssa Gestl and senior Zachary Wells rounded out Army's counting unit in air rifle with respective marks of 586 and 583 as the Black Knights trailed Kentucky 2369-2352 in that discipline.

Joining Todaro on the four-man smallbore unit were Gestl (576), All-American Michael Matthews (575) and freshman Allen Solida in combining for a 2303 to the Wildcats' 2328. Gestl and Matthews finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Freshman Danielle Cuomo, firing individually in smallbore, authored a 576 in tying for sixth place.

Sophomore Olivia Nardone and Cuomo fired career highs in air rifle with respective scores of 587 and 582, with freshman Elizabeth Mostert chipping in with career marks in smallbore (570) and air rifle (579).

The Black Knights, who defeated No. 11 Murray State, 4668-4652 Friday, posted a 1-1 mark over the weekend to stand 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the GARC. Two of Army's conference losses were to NCAA and GARC defending champion West Virginia and a Kentucky (8-2, 4-0 GARC) squad that finished second last year at the NCAAs.

Army leaves the dual meet circuit Friday when it heads to Philadelphia to compete at the NRA Sectionals being hosted by the University of the Sciences at the Colonel William Shea Rifle Range. The Black Knights will be looking for a strong performance at the Sectionals, which are held throughout the country between January and February.
