WEST POINT
, N.Y. - The Army swimming and diving teams opened the 2009-10 campaign with some strong performances across the board Friday night at Crandall Pool.

The Black Knight men opened the season by sweeping Boston College (180-116) and Stony Brook (193-86), while the women defeated Stony Brook (153-147), but fell to Boston College (162-138) and Vermont (171-129).

"Today was a great way to start the season," said Black Knight head coach Mickey Wender. "I thought our freshman class performed particularly well in their first collegiate competition. We have several strong underclassmen that we are going to count on this season and this was a great opportunity for them to continue learning how to compete at this level. There were a lot of great efforts out there across the board. I'm really looking forward to this season with this team."

Army freshman Dan Foky notched four first-place performances in his first collegiate meet, while senior James McLaughlin and sophomore Brody Blickle were triple-winners for the Army men. Individually, McLaughlin swept top finishes in the 100 (58.31) and 200 (2:09.86) breaststroke events, while Blickle swam the night's fastest times in the 100 butterfly (50.87) and 200 individual medley (1:56.03) and Foky touched the wall first in the 50 free (21.60) and the 100 free (47.41). The trio then joined sophomore Chuck Zhou to out-distance the field in the 200 medley relay (1:35.33), while Foky also teamed with senior captain Chuck Ciliske, sophomore Byron Plapp and freshman Bill McCarty to finish first in the 400 free relay (3:10.54).

Sophomore Cody Reeb picked up a pair of individual victories in the 1,000 free (9:48.09) and the 500 free (4:44.02).

Other strong performances included McCarty's two third-place efforts in the 200 free (1:45.50) and 500 free (4:47.65) and freshman Carter Kelly's two runner-up showings in the 100 breast (1:00.77) and 200 breast (2:13.94).
