WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army junior lacrosse player Jeremy Boltus was named the Army Athletic Association (AAA) Athlete of the Week, Monday, following his standout performance in Saturday's victory over Rutgers.
The Baldwinsville, N.Y. native totaled career-high seven points, including the 100th of his career, as the Black Knights toppled the Scarlet Knights, 11-8, to snap a three game skid while halting Rutgers' four-game winning streak. It was the highest single-game scoring output for an Army player since former All-American John Walker tallied seven points in a 12-8 victory over Air Force on April 2, 2005.
Boltus' two goals and career-best tying five assists helped him become the 27th player in Army history to eclipse the 100-point plateau and move into a tie for 23rd place on the Black Knights' all-time scoring list with 106 points. He is also tied for 14th place on the all-time assists list with 58 over the last three years.
As a team, Army shot an eye-popping .611 from the field, efficiently converting 11 of 18 total shots taken during the game. It was the highest shooting percentage totaled by the Black Knights in over 25 years. All 11 of the Black Knights' goals also had an assist.
Boltus is currently ranked second in the nation with 2.83 assists per game while ranking eighth with 4.67 points per game.
Boltus and the Black Knights (2-4) will kick off the Patriot League portion of the 2010 schedule on Tuesday, traveling to Lehigh for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Mountain Hawks.
