WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army freshman attackman Garrett Thul was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, Monday. It is the second-straight week the Flemington, N.J. native has garnered the award.
Thul registered a team-best five points in Saturday's showdown at No. 8 Cornell. His four-goal, one-assist outing included a goal and an assist during a 3-0 Army run in the fourth quarter that tied the score, 11-11, to force overtime.
Thul also scored back-to-back goals over a four-minute stretch in the second quarter to pull Army out of a two-goal deficit and knot the score, 5-5, as the teams were tied at halftime. Cornell would prevail, 12-11, tallying the overtime game-winner with 41 seconds remaining in the first extra period.
For the season, Thul leads the Black Knights with 11 goals and is second with 13 points.
Thul and the Black Knights will travel to Air Force this Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. EST showdown with the Falcons. Undefeated in 16 all-time meetings with its service-academy rival, this week's game will mark the first time Army has ever traveled to Colorado Springs for the contest.
