WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army junior attackman Jason Peyer scored five points on two goals and three assists to lead the 13/16 Black Knights to a 13-9 victory over visiting Colgate Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium.

Eight Army players found the net, including five who scored two goals apiece as Army (7-2, 3-0 Patriot League) won its fifth game in a row and remained undefeated in the Patriot League.

“I was very impressed with how hard we played, given the fact that it was our fifth game in the last two weeks,” said Army head coach Joe Alberici. “That is a lot of lacrosse in a short period of time against some good teams, including three games on the road. I think it is a testament to how hard our guys have worked and how focused they are on winning.”

Senior attackman Justin Bokmeyer, senior midfielder Paul Wigdzinski and junior midfielder Kevin LoRusso were each credited with two goals and an assist, while junior attackman Brooks Korvin chipped in a pair of goal for the Black Knights. Senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton registered another solid performance in net with 12 saves, marking his sixth game of the season with double-digit saves.

Colgate senior attackman Matt Lalli checked in with four points on two goals and two assists, while sophomore midfielder Ian Murphy added two goals and an assist for the Raiders (3-4, 1-2 Patriot League). Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Harrington made 14 saves in the loss.

Junior attackman Kevin Colleluori scored an unassisted goal at 11:07 to give Colgate the early lead, but three unanswered Army goals to finish the period gave the Black Knights a 3-1 edge after the first quarter. LoRusso took a feed from Wigdzinski and bounced Army’s first goal home from eight yards out at 6:09 to tie things up, before an unassisted tally by Korvin at 3:17 and a Bokmeyer goal off an assist by junior midfielder Alex Rhoads at 1:21 put the home team up by two.

Colgate would open the second quarter with a goal at 10:22, but the Black Knights would use a 3-1 run to lead 6-3 at halftime. Freshman midfielder Rob McCallion caused a turnover in the Colgate zone and fed LoRusso at 9:48 for his second goal of the day. Peyer stuck a shot in the top left corner of the goal off a LoRusso feed at 5:47 to make it a 5-2 game, before Murphy tallied off a Lalli assist to pull within two at 4:46. Senior midfielder Mike Hanna took a feed from Peyer and scored with 24 seconds on the clock to give Army the three goal-cushion at halftime.

Both teams scored three times in the third quarter as Army held on to its three-goal edge, 9-6. After Colgate junior midfielder Brandon Corp potted an unassisted goal 15 seconds into the second half, Wigdzinski whizzed home his first tally of the day from 10 yards out at 10:48, before Bokmeyer fed Peyer at 9:52 to make it an 8-4 Army lead. Lalli and Corp added goals less than a minute apart to pull the Raiders within two, 8-6, but Peyer found freshman attackman Jeremy Boltus wide open on the Colgate goal mouth where he beat Harrington for the final tally of the third quarter.

Lalli’s second goal of the game got the Raiders within two, 9-7, with 13:58 on the clock, but a 4-1 Army run forged a 13-8 lead with 1:28 left in the game to seal the victory. A Raider turnover led to a Peyer-to-Wigdzinski hookup at 9:08, before Murphy tallied a Colgate goal at 8:15 to make it a two-goal game, 10-8. After goals by Bokmeyer at 7:48 and Korvin at 5:36 made it a 12-8 Army advantage, senior defenseman Craig Massie scored his first collegiate goal on a 45-yard heave into an empty net at 1:28 after the Raiders brought Harrington up to help out on defense. Colleluori would add a goal with 51 seconds remaining for the game’s final tally.

GAME NOTES:
