HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Army junior attackman Jason Peyer buried a shot in the top left corner from 15 yards away with two seconds left to lift the 16/13 Black Knights to a come-from behind 8-7 victory at 12/15 Hofstra, Wednesday night.

Peyer took a feed from freshman midfieder Rob McCallion and converted from a very tough angle, as Army, which trailed, 7-4, with 14:50 to play in the game, scored the final four goals of the game.

Senior midfielder Paul Wigzinski tallied three points on two goals and an assist, while McCallion, junior attackman Brooks Korvin and freshman attackman Jeremy Boltus each checked in with a goal and an assist for the Black Knights (6-2). Senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton made eight saves to preserve the victory.

Hofstra struck first at 11:35 as Michael Colleluori converted a Jay Card feed for the early lead. Widgzinski tied things up at 6:54 with a bouncing shot from eight yards out to knot the game, 1-1.

Korvin scored, unassisted, from five yards out at 3:48 as the Black Knights led, 2-1, after the first quarter.

Hofstra scored four-straight goals while holding Army scoreless in the second quarter to forge a 5-2 lead. Michael Understein found the net at 13:50, before Anthony Muscarella tallied 39 seconds later, Dan Stein scored at 8:53 and Tom Dooley scored on a dive into the crease at 2:33 to stake the Pride to its largest lead of the game.

Wigdzinski bounced home his second goal from eight yards out off an assist from Korvin to make it a 5-3 game with 12:38 to play in the third quarter. Dooley’s second goal came at 8:31 to put the Pride back up by three, 6-3, at 8:31.

Army would get within two before the end of the quarter as Boltus took a feed from junior midfielder Alex Rhoads and scored from seven yards out with 1:34 on the clock as the Black Knights trailed 6-4 after three quarters.

Hofstra would capitalize on two Army penalties that put the Black Knights down two men to start the fourth quarter. Stein’s second goal made it a 7-4 Pride lead with 14:50 on the clock.

From there, the Black Knights took over. LoRusso took a feed from Wigdzinski and used a nice move to beat Hofstra goalie Danny Orlando to make it 7-5 with 13:03 to play.

Butler took a pass from Boltus and scored on a 12-yard laser at 11:26 before McCallion faked out Orlando and beat him from close range to net the equalizer at 6:52.

GAME NOTES: Army’s comeback marked the first time the Black Knights won after trailing to start the fourth quarter since making up a 7-5 deficit to beat Colgate, 10-8, on April 28, 2006 ... the 8-7 victory was Army’s fifth one-goal game this season. The Black Knights are 3-2 in those games ... Hofstra scored the game’s first goal, marking the first time Army did not get on the board first this season ... the win was Army's first over the Pride in Hempstead since a 14-10 victory on April 16, 1996 ... Peyer, who notched his third-straight game-winning goal, was this week's Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, while McCallion was named Rookie of the Week ... all the Army players wore green shoe laces for the game in support of the “HEADStrong” Foundation, established in honor of Hofstra lacrosse player, Nick Colleluori, who passed away in 2006 after a battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma ... Army returns home this Saturday to take on Colgate at 1:00 p.m. in the first of three-straight Patriot League matchups.
