WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army lacrosse team was ranked No. 23 in the Inside Lacrosse Faceoff Yearbook preseason poll, Wednesday, while senior goalie Adam Fullerton and senior defenseman Jay Larson were named preseason Honorable Mention All-Americans.
Seven of the Black Knights’ 14 regular-season game will be against teams ranked in the poll. Army will face No. 2 Duke, No. 7 Cornell, No. 11 Syracuse and No. 19 Hofstra, along with No. 9 Navy, No. 17 Bucknell and No. 21 Colgate in Patriot League action. No. 20 Massachusetts is also scheduled to visit Michie Stadium for a preseason scrimmage.
Fullerton, a native of Liverpool, N.Y., was named the Patriot League Goalie of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference selection in 2007. Named one of the nation’s “Top-10 Goalies For 2008” by Inside Lacrosse earlier this fall, Fullerton finished 2007 ranked 10th in the nation with a 7.79 goals against average, and 15th with a .581 save percentage. He will serve as a team captain in 2008.
Larson, who hails from Troy, N.Y., anchored a defensive unit that finished 10th in the country in scoring defense with a 7.8 goals against average. He was named a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection for his efforts in 2007.
After scrimmages at Fairfield (Feb. 2) and Massachusetts (Feb. 9), the Black Knights will kick off the regular season against visiting VMI on Feb. 16 at 1:00 p.m.
