WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army junior goalkeeper Tom Palesky was named the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Division I National Player of the Week for his efforts during the Black Knights' run to the Patriot League Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament.
The Plano, Texas native was named Most Valuable Player of the Patriot League Tournament that saw Army defeat Bucknell, 9-7, in Friday's semifinals, before upending arch-rival Navy, 11-8, in Sunday's championship game.
On Friday, Palesky made 17 saves, including 11 in the first half to keep the Black Knights within striking distance of the Bison and setup the second-half comeback. He then totaled 12 saves in the Sunday's championship game that clinched the program's first Patriot League title since 2003 and first NCAA appearance since 2005.
Palesky, who has compiled double-digit save totals in 10 of Army's 15 games this season, and the rest of the 16th-ranked Black Knights await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field and their first round opponent. Sunday's selection show will be carried live on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m. as the 16-team field is revealed.
