BOSTON – Army senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton was honored by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) with third-team All-America honors, Sunday night, in an awards banquet at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston.
The Black Knight captain also voted a LaxPower.com Fan’s Choice Award winner as Senior Goalkeeper of the Year at another reception during the evening.
Fullerton, a native of Liverpool, N.Y., became the first Army player to be named All-America since senior defenseman Matt Luyster and senior attackman John Walker lauded honorable mention honors after the 2006 season. He also becomes the Black Knights’ first third-team honoree since senior midfielder Rob Cahill capped his career with the award in 1991.
A finalist for both the Tewaaraton and Enners awards recognizing the national player of the year, Fullerton was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and a first-team all-conference honoree for the second season in a row.
Named the Patriot League Goalie of the Week on five occasions this year, he finished the season ranked sixth nationally in save percentage (.615) and ninth in goals against average (7.30), while leading the conference in both categories.
Fullerton registered double-digit saves in 11 games, including a career-high 24 in a 10-6 loss to top-ranked Duke when Army held the potent Blue Devil offense six goals under their season scoring average.
Fullerton also eclipsed the 24-year old Academy record for career saves, besting the previous mark of 603 held by four-time All-American George Slabowski (USMA ’91) with 620 over the past four years.
Since 1922, 213 Army lacrosse players have been named All-America, including 83 first-teamers, 69 second-teamers and 122 honorable mention. Fullerton was named the 39th third-team honoree in Academy history.
