WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army junior attackman Jason Peyer was named the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, Monday, after helping the nationally-ranked lacrosse team to a pair of wins last week.
A native of Williston Park, N.Y., Peyer scored the game-winning goal in the Black Knights’ last second 8-7 victory last Tuesday at 12th-ranked Hofstra. With only two seconds remaining in the game, Peyer took a feed from freshman midfielder Rob McCallion and rifled home a 15-yard shot from a nearly impossible angle to complete Army’s fourth-quarter comeback and win, 8-7.
Peyer followed up Tuesday’s heroics with a five-point performance in the Black Knights’ 13-9 win over Colgate on Saturday in Michie Stadium. He tallied two goals and three assists as Army won its fifth-straight game, and improved to 7-2 this spring, including a sparkling 3-0 mark in the Patriot League.
Army, which moved up to No. 11 in this week’s Nike/Inside Lacrosse national media poll, returns to action this Friday with a conference showdown at No. 15 Bucknell. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa.
