SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– Army senior goalkeeper Adam Fullerton made 13 saves but it was No. 8 Syracuse holding on for an 8-7 victory over the Black Knights, Sunday, in the Carrier Dome.

Fullerton, who made 16 saves in last season’s 8-6 upset in the Carrier Dome, made 12 of his stops in the first half. Junior attackman Jason Peyer scored two goals, while freshman Rob McCallion added a goal and two assists to lead the Army (1-1) offense.

Syracuse attackman Mike Leveille tallied four goals and two assists to lead the 2-0 Orange.

Army struck first as Kevin LoRusso made a run from the right side and found a wide-open Justin Bokmeyer on the left of the SU goalmouth. Bokmeyer beat Galloway with a quick low shot for his sixth goal of the season at 12:42 to give Army the 1-0 lead.

The Orange cashed in an Army slashing penalty for their first goal of the game as Stephen Keough took a Leveille pass and scored on a 10-yard laser into the top-right corner to even the score, 1-1.

Junior attackman Brooks Korvin put Army up, 2-1, at the 3:50 mark of the second quarter with an unassisted bouncer from the right side.

Syracuse would answer less than three minutes later as Greg Niewieroski shook off his defender and converted a pass from Dan Hardy from 10 yards out to tie the game back up, 2-2.

As the final seconds of the half ticked down, LoRusso fed McCallion from behind the goal where he converted from 12 yards out to put the Black Knights up, 3-2, with five seconds on the clock.

Syracuse tallied the first score of the second half as Niewieroski  took an assist from Matt Abbott at 11:31 to knot the game, 3-3.

The Orange would take their first lead of the game on an unassisted goal by Leveille at 3:18 and then went up, 5-3, a minute later as Mike MacDonald took a Kenny Nims pass and scored a 2:16. Leveille would score an unassisted goal at 1:39 to make it a 6-3 contest, before Jason Peyer stopped the Orange run with a man-up goal off an assist from McCallion at 1:05 to make it 6-4 after three quarters of play.

Syracuse was called for a holding penalty and the Army man-up unit cashed in again. Pat Fullerton’s first career goal at 13:48 came off an assist from McCallion at 13:48 to make it a one-goal game, 6-5.

Leveille tallied his third goal of the game unassisted at 9:28, before netting his fourth 11 seconds later on an assist from Brendan Loftus to give the Orange an 8-5 cushion with 9:17 remaining in the game.

Paul Wigdzinski bounced home a low liner at 7:21 to cut the Orange lead to 8-6. It was his first goal of the season.

With the Orange looking to run the clock out, Army made it a one-goal game as Peyer batted in a rebound of a saved Army shot with 3:36 on the clock to make the score, 8-7.

Syracuse was able to run the clock out en route to the victory.

Army returns to action next Saturday, hosting Air Force at 12:00 p.m. at Michie Stadium.
