WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army swimming & diving coach
Mickey Wender recently announced the incoming Class of 2013 that will be joining the program this year.
“We had a very successful recruiting year and both teams will be much-improved for the coming campaign,” said
Wender. “We have the talent and potential to do some great things and I couldn't be more excited about the group of athletes we have brought together to represent West Point. Not only are they good swimmers and divers, but they are great people. They understand the mission of the academy and have embraced the mission of our program.”
Highlighting the women's class is multi-talented Alyssa Tran (100 breast: 1:05.30, 50 free: 23.7) from Yorba Linda, Calif. and Becky Malone (100 breast: 1:06.35, 200 breast: 2:24.73) from nearby Cornwall, N.Y. They will be joined by backstroke specialists Juliana Lynch from Fairfield, Ohio (100 back: 1:00.70; 200 back: 2:10.25) and Montana Sweet (100 back: 1:02.70) from Melbourne, Fla.
Adding depth to the Black Knight sprint freestylers are Juliette Wallerstein from Southbury, Conn. (50 free: 25.1, 100 free: 55.2), Danielle Myers (Yorba Linda, Calif., 50 free: 25.3, 100 free: 55.1), Janae Bell (Woodstock, Ga., 50 free: 25.4, 100 free: 55.5), and Megan Metts (Springfield, Va.). Joining the middle and long distance freestyle corps will be Alex Sieracki (Springfield, Va.), Katerina Smith (Mesa, Ariz.), Megan Luhrsen (O'Fallon, Ill,) and Stephanie Wangeman (Monument, Colo.). Wender will also welcome breaststrokers Christine Esachina (Blairsville, Pa.) and Lauren Hughes (Palmdale, Calif.).

Cody Reeb (St. Louis, Mo., 500 free: 4:31.00, 1,000 free: 9:20.15, 1,650 free: 15:40.00) from Navy and Bill McCarty (500 free: 4:33.51, 200 free: 1:41.00, 100 free: 45.8, 50 free: 20.8) from Wisconsin-Milwaukee – look to have an immediate impact on Army’s fortunes during the coming season.

Three divers will also join the squad this coming semester. Connecticut standout Chris Nguyen (Cheshire, Conn.) will join New York State Championship qualifiers Vinny Franchino (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Chad Drake (Fort Drum, N.Y.)
