MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico - Army middle distance specialist Torre Santiago turned in a strong performance representing host Puerto Rico in the 1500 meter run at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games earlier this week.

Mexico's Juan Luis Barrios, who celebrated his 27th birthday (second oldest among the competitors in the race) at the Games, captured the gold medal in 3:44.8. His winning time nipped runner-up Venezuela's Eduar Villanueva (3:45.05) for the title and was 3.01 seconds off the Games Record set 28 years ago by Cuba's Eduardo Castro.

Santiago. a member of the Black Knights' cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams, is a six-time Patriot League champion who has captured titles in the 1000, 1500 and mile events along with running legs on the distance medley and 4x800-meter relays.
