MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Army men's tennis team (6-5) picked up a 7-5 win over host Florida Institute of Technology on Thursday in Melbourne, Fla.

The Black Knights' win over the Panthers marked Army's third consecutive victory and fourth in its last five matches.

Led by an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles from Chris Albornoz/Johnny Lucero, Army won three of the four contested matches, behind the duo's sixth straight victory. Trip Johnson/Alex Holland posted an 8-6 win at third doubles, with Dan Shaffer/Andrew Clark turning in a 9-7 win at No. 4.

In singles action, Albonoz held on for the win at second singles with a 7-3 second-set tiebreak after claiming the first set 7-6. Johnson (No. 3) and Rashad Shelton (No. 6) each went three sets en route to points for the Black Knights, while Bruno Lucivero won at No. 7, 6-4, 6-4.

Before the match began, the teams agreed to alter the format to four doubles and eight singles matches instead of the traditional three-doubles six-singles slate.

Army will return to action on Sunday in Winter Park, Fla. to take on service academy-rival Air Force. The first serve is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
