WEST POINT,
N.Y. - Winners of three of its last four matches, the Army
men's tennis team will return to action on Thursday at Florida Institute of
Technology in Melbourne, Fla.
The Black Knights
return to the court riding back-to-back wins over Monmouth and NJIT March 5 and
7 at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The match opposite the Panthers marks Army's
first match of the spring season away from West Point, where the Black Knights
have posted a 5-5 overall mark.
Although Army
raised its record with the pair of wins, freshman Gary Kushnirovich, the
No. 9 ranked player in the Northeast Region, suffered his first loss of the
spring season (8-1) and will look to get back on track down south. In doubles
action, senior captain Chris Albornoz and classmate John Lucero have authored a
9-2 spring mark, including five consecutive victories, to lead the team.
Army owns a 2-0
record against the Panthers (4-8) in a series that dates back to the spring of
1994.
Following
Thursday's match, Army will battle service academy-rival Air Force on Sunday in
Winter Park, Fla.
