WEST POINT, N.Y.
- Army senior Lindsey Adao and freshman Chris Nguyen are set to compete at the
2010 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships this Friday and Saturday, hosted by Rutgers at the RU Aquatic Center.
Adao, the two-time Patriot League Female Diver of the Year
and four-time Patriot League Champion, will be competing at her fourth straight
championship, while Nguyen, who was named a first-team all-conference selection
after winning the Patriot League 3-meter dive championship, will be making his
first appearance at the event.
"I'm really excited about the weekend and for Lindsey and
Chris," said Army diving coach Ron Kontura, who was voted the 2010 Patriot
League Diving Coach of the Year. "For Lindsey, I am looking forward to her
closing out one of the most decorated Army diving careers on a positive note.
For Chris, it will be a chance to gain experience performing on the biggest
stage of his young career."
Adao swept the 1-meter (269.70) and 3-meter (273.00) diving
events at the Patriot League Championships en route to being named the Female
Diver of the Meet for the second year in a row. After being named a second-team
all-conference selection following freshman and sophomore campaigns that saw
her finish runner-up on both boards at the Patriot League Championships, she
finished first in both events as a junior and a senior.
Nguyen was crowned 3-meter dive champion in his first
appearance at the Patriot League meet, winning the event by over 23 points with
a 339.25 score that also qualified him for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships
next week. He was also leading the 1-meter competition after the preliminary
rounds with a career-best score of 291.75, before finishing eighth in the finals. Nguyen also recently qualified for the USA Diving Junior National Championships after finishing in the top-six of both boards at the Regional Championships earlier this month.
Preliminary rounds are slated to start at 1:00 p.m. on
Friday, followed by finals at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's prelims are scheduled to start at 12:00
p.m., before the finals at 3:00 p.m.
