WEST POINT, N.Y. - In conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Army women's basketball team will host its annual WBCA Pink Zone® game in an aggressive effort to raise breast cancer awareness on Sunday, Feb. 14. Army welcomes league-leader Lehigh for a 1 p.m. tip-off at Christl Arena. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13.
Army has been amongst hundreds of programs of all levels across the country to participate in the WBCA Pink Zone initiative in each of the last two years. The WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The WBCA began the WBCA Pink Zone, formerly known as "Think Pink", in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. Kay Yow, the late North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst for the initiative after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations took part and reached over 830,000 fans. The program grew to include over 1,600 participating teams reaching over 912,000 fans.
Army is one of a growing list of 1,100+ teams and organizations participating this year and a slew of promotions to include discount tickets and more are planned.
Fans are encouraged to honor the cause by wearing pink to the game and those that do will be admitted for half-price ($3). All fans wearing pink will also receive a free wristband to further show their support for breast cancer awareness, while also being entered into a drawing for a commemorative pink basketball, presented by The Rock, autographed by the 2009-10 Black Knights who will debut a specially designed pink jersey for the event.
In addition to celebrating Pink Zone, Army will also hold National Girls and Women In Sports Day, offering a free t-shirt giveaway to the first 250 girls ages 13 and under entering the game. Children's tickets run for $3 apiece.

All bigs who bring their littles to the game will receive buy one, get one free admission. Parents and couples can also get a jump start on Valentine's Day festivities, as the Army Athletic Association is offering a buy one, get one free ticket promotion for all couples in attendance.
