HOLY CROSS 5, ARMY 3

WORCESTER, Mass.  - Owen Meyer scored two goals and Eric Sefchik collected three points but Holy Cross scored three times in the third period to beat Army, 5-3, Friday night in an Atlantic Hockey Association matchup at the Hart Center.

Army led 1-0 but Holy Cross tied the game in the first period and never trailed, closing the scoring with an empty net tally late in the contest.

In addition to Meyer's two goals, Marcel Alvarez had a goal and assist and Sefchik dished out three. Cody Omilusik and Mike Hull also had assists for Army which is now 9-13-5 overall and 8-9-4 in conference games.

Holy Cross, which was idle last weekend, improved to 7-14-5 overall and 6-10-4 in league contests.'

Army goalie Jay Clark made 30 saves while Thomas Tysowski was credited with 27.

Meyer staked the Black Knights to a 1-0 lead, scoring his eighth goal of the season midway through the first period. Sefchik and Omilusik collected assists and worked the puck to Meyer who went high from the top of the faceoff circle for his 61st career goal. It was Sefchik's team-leading 20th assist and his third straight game with an assist. Omilusik picked up his 14th assist of the season and now has an assist in each of his last five games.

Holy Cross took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play late in the first period and tied the game at one. With two Army players in the penalty box for boarding, Luke Miller scores his fifth goal of the season with 1:34 remaining in the first period.

The Crusaders went on top in the second period, holding a 17-11 advantage in shots on goal and making it a 2-1 game when Matt Gordon scored for the second time this season seven minutes into the session.

Clark was forced to make a bevy of saves in the first two periods and had 26 after the first 40 minutes.

The Black Knights tied the game with a power play goal with 15 minutes left in the game. With a Holy Cross player serving two minutes for roughing, Army scored its first power play goal of the game. Alvarez had the puck up top, worked it to Sefchik who found Meyer. Meyer blasted in his ninth goal of the season from the opposite faceoff circle as his first goal. Sefchik collected his third straight multiple-point game and for Alvarez, it was his 12th assist of the season.

Holy Cross went ahead for the second time midway through the final period as Kyle Atkins scored his first goal of the season.

The Crusaders extended their advantage less than two minutes later when Jordan Cyr scored an unassisted tally while on his back at the 9:52 mark.

Army again answered, with another power play goal. This time it was Alvarez earning the multiple point game. Hull worked the puck to Sefchik who dished to Alvarez just inside the blue line. Alvarez let go a laser for his sixth goal of the season and Hull collected his 13th assist with 7:18 left to play.

Trying to net the tying goal, Army pulled Clark and the Crusaders took advantage of the empty net when Jay Silvia scored almost as Clark was getting off the surface.

Army will conclude its series with Holy Cross Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Hart Center.

GAME NOTES: Army's starting lineup consisted of Andy Starczewski, Eric Sefchik, Cody Omilusik, Marcel Alvarez, John Clark and Jay Clark ... Because of the slanted entry way to the Army bench, Director of Hockey Operations Tom Doran was forced to store extra sticks in the hallway behind the Black Knights' bench ...
