Box Score: Army 57, Delaware State 50

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army women's basketball erased a 26-23 halftime deficit to collect a 57-50 victory over visiting Delaware State on Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena. Junior F Erin Anthony and freshman F Alison Grapevine provided strong post play with 24 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Black Knights. Anthony completed her second double-double of the year, tying a career-best number with 16 rebounds.

Army evened its record to 2-2 on the year, while Delaware State dropped to 1-2.

Grapevine's 10 points came on a 3-for-5 effort from the floor, while the Lowellville, Ohio, native hauled down a career-high nine rebounds and totaled two blocks in what was easily her best outing of the 2009-10 season. Anthony shot 12-of-18 from the field, helping Army to a 41 percent (23-of-56) percent showing. The Black Knights held Delaware State to a 33 percent (20-of-60) mark on the afternoon. Army out-rebounded the Hornets, 49-31.

Army out-scored the Hornets by a 34-24 margin in the second half and took the lead for good as Grapevine sank a pair of free throws at the 13:33 mark to make it 37-36.

The Hornets pulled back to within three points twice during the second half (41-38, 43-40) with the latter coming at the 7:23 mark. While Delaware State went cold, scoring just three points over the next 4:54, Army extended its lead to eight (49-41). Anthony capped the Army spurt with back-to-back layups, the first on a nice feed from freshman G Molly Yardley and the second on a putback with 5:01 to play.

Delaware State did not go away, drawing to within four points (49-45), as junior G Cortney Crockett drilled a layup with 3:29 on the clock. The Hornets continued to work, using full court pressure over the final four minutes of play to disrupt Army's game. Delaware State closed to within six (54-47) with just under two minutes to play.

A resilient Army team responded by taking its largest lead of the game (57-47) on a mid-range jumper from junior G/F Laura Baranek with 44.4 seconds on the clock. The Black Knights held on from there, collecting their second win of the season at Christl Arena.

A slow start for the Black Knights saw Delaware State break an 8-8 tie with a 15-2 run, putting the Hornets ahead by 13 (23-10) with just under 10 minutes to play. Army responded with a 13-3 run to close the half trailing by just three points (26-23).

Anthony scored 12 points in each half, while eight of Grapevine's 10 points came after the break. Yardley scored a career-high seven points, playing for just the second time in her collegiate career. Junior G Nalini Hawkins added six points, while Baranek and junior G Jessie Coiffard totaled five points apiece.

Yardley finished with a career-high seven points, making two of her three attempts and going 2-for-2 from the stripe. Army missed just two of 11 free throws all afternoon. Coiffard matched a career-best with five of Army's 11 assists and added five points. Hawkins and Baranek finished with six and five points, respectively.

Senior G Selena Galloway led the Hornets with 14 points, while Crockett added 10.

Army returns to action on the eve of Thanksgiving as the team welcomes service-academy rival Air Force to Christl Arena for a 7 p.m. start on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Notes: Army and Delaware State met for the second time on Saturday, completing a home-and-home series that started in 2007-08 in Dover, Del. … the victory stopped a two-game Army losing skid ... freshman F Megan Maurer earned her first collegiate time at the end of the first half.
