WEST POINT, N.Y. -
The Army swimming & diving teams will split up for a pair of road dual
meets this weekend. The women (2-4) will take on C.W. Post on Friday night at 5:00
p.m., while the men will put their undefeated 5-0 record on the line when they
square off with Columbia
on Saturday afternoon, starting at 12:00 p.m.
Both squads are coming off a victory at
Patriot League rival Holy Cross last Wednesday that saw the men take a 189-89
decision, and the women win, 185-115.
The men were led by a quartet of individual double-winners. Senior James McLaughlin swept the 50 (28.09) and 100 (1:00.16) breaststrokes, while
sophomore Chuck Zhou swam the day's fastest times in the 200 freestyle (1:49.10) and the 50
backstroke (25.93).
Freshman Scot Aron touched the wall first in the 1,000 free (10:07.45) and the 500 free
(4:55.13), while junior diver Brendan Georgas posted career highs in winning
the 1-meter (290.40) and 3-meter (280.72) boards on his way to being named
Patriot League Male Diver of the Week.
Freshman Brandon Faust finished first in the 100 free (50.35) and joined sophomore Byron Plapp, sophomore Mark Courey and freshman Alex Ford to win the 200 free relay (1:29.62). Courey also touched the wall
first in the 100 butterfly (54.46).
Top finishes were also turned in by sophomore Brody Bickle in the 50 free
(21.91), freshman Chris Corbett in the 100 back (57.02) and sophomore Taylor Whitten in the 400 individual medley (4:20.75).
For the women, junior Corri Payne led the way with four first-place efforts, including three individual
wins. She started by teaming with freshmen Montana Sweet, Alyssa Tran and Becky Malone to win the 400 medley relay (4:06.34) before notching the day's top
times in the 200 free (1:59.52), 100 free (56.10) and the 500 free (5:17.93).
Tran also added wins in the 50 free (25.01) and 50 butterfly (26.91), while
also swimming on the winning 200 free relay with sophomore Leigh Rosenberger and freshmen Christine Esachina and Megan Metts (1:43.76).
Sweet also swept the 50 (29.39) and 100 (1:03.30) backstrokes, while Malone
also added a win in the 400 individual medley (4:54.38).
Senior Amy Tang out-touched the field in the 100 fly (1:00.98), while freshman Alex Sieracki couldn't be caught in the 1,000 free (11:00.94).
Senior diver Lindsey Adao rounded out the day with the top performances in the 1-meter (273.37)
and the 3-meter (269.18) competitions. She lauded her 16th-career Patriot
League Female Diver of the Week recognition for her efforts.
Both squads will off until Dec. 10 when they will travel to Annapolis, Md.
for their annual showdown at Navy, scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m.
