PATRIOT LEAGUE HONORS ANTHONY
Junior F Erin Anthony picked up Patriot League Player of the Week honors in the first week of nominations on Monday. She averaged 20.5 points per game over two contests, including a 27-point effort against Wagner in Army’s season-opener.

START ME UP
Army’s starting five for the first two games of the year featured F Erin Anthony and F Kait Goodall in the post, along with G/F Laura Baranek, G Jessie Coiffard and G Nalini Hawkins. Earning the start was a first in the careers of Coiffard and Goodall in last Friday’s opener.

EXTRA! EXTRA!
Army won a season-opener for the first time in head coach Dave Magarity’s tenure in 2009-10. The 74-70 overtime victory over Wagner (Nov. 13) also marked the first time that Army has ever played an overtime game in the first outing of the season.

MAGARITY REACHES #375
Army head coach Dave Magarity recorded the 375th win of a decorated career in Army’s season-opener on Nov. 13.

COACHING MATCH-UP
Army’s Dave Magarity begins his 27th season as a collegiate head coach, 23 of which were spent in the men’s ranks, including an 18-year stint at Hudson Valley rival Marist. Magarity took the reins at West Point for the 2006-07 season and owns a 62-32 (.660) record in four seasons at West Point. He recorded his 375th career victory in Army’s opener on Nov. 13.

Ed Davis is in his 10th season at Delaware State and 18th overall as a collegiate head coach. He is 157-117 with the Hornets and led them to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2006-07.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Delaware State comes into Saturday’s contest off a 66-46 home loss at the hands of Northeastern, which will host Army on Saturday, Nov. 28. The Hornets are 1-1 after opening the season with a 84-28 rout of Lincoln (Pa.) on Nov. 13.

Plagued with early-season injuries, starting F Ashley Thompson went down with a leg injury in the opener and did not play on Wednesday night against Northeastern. Meanwhile, starting G/F Ferderica Holloman went down in the first half against Northeastern and did not return. Her status heading into Saturday is unknown.

Junior F/C Brittany Washington leads the Hornets in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (12.0) two games into the 2009-10 campaign. Junior G Cortney Crockett is averaging 13.5 ppg to go with a solid 7.5 rpg.

Under the direction of 10th-year head coach Ed Davis, Delaware State went 15-15 last season and 11-5 to finish third in the MEAC standings. The Hornets won the title in 2006-07 and appeared in the NCAA Tournament that season.

THE LAST MEETING
(Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007)
DOVER, Del. – Delaware State broke a 40-40 tie just over eight minutes into the second half and proceeded to close the game on a 23-9 run to defeat the Army women’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall by a 63-49 score.

The Black Knights’ record moved to 4-3, while the Hornets evened their record at 3-3 with the win.

After Army fell behind 31-25 at the half, freshman forward Erin Anthony’s layin with 12:40 remaining knotted the score at 40-all and capped a quick 5-0 Black Knight run to get back into the contest.

The Hornets responded, however, scoring 13 of the next 15 points to pull ahead 53-42 with 8:20 on the clock. The Black Knights never got back to within less than eight for the remainder of the contest.

The Black Knights shot 36 percent (18-of-50) from the field, while the Hornets hit for a 40 percent (22-of-55) mark.

LAST TIME OUT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Army opened the second half on a 15-3 run, but it was not enough to erase a 22-point halftime deficit as the Army women’s basketball fell on the road at Yale, 55-42, Tuesday night at Lee Amphitheater. Junior F Erin Anthony led all players with 15 points -- 13 of which came in the second half --  and eight rebounds, while junior G Nalini Hawkins totaled 11 points to go with a team-high nine boards in the loss.

Army, which got to within 10 (40-30) in the second half, shot 33 percent (19-of-57) for the game. Yale shot 31 percent (19-of-61) from the floor and took 22 more free throws than Army’s five attempts.

LONG BENCH
• Head coach Dave Magarity went 13 deep into his bench on Tuesday at Yale, marking a season-high. Part of the reason for that was leading scorer junior F Erin Anthony picked up three fouls within the first eight minutes of action.

• Junior F Laura Burdick, sophomore F Lauren Lybbert and freshmen G Molly Yardley and F Kimberlyn Martin all played for the first time this season.

HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
Coming off a standout season at the USMA Prep School, freshman F Alison Grapevine collected her first collegiate points (4) and rebounds (2) at Yale on Nov. 17. She shot 2-of-3 in eight minutes in her best outing of the season.

DIALING LONG DISTANCE
Averaging 2.3 three-pointers per game, junior G Jessie Coiffard is tied for fourth in the Patriot League rankings, matching Bethany O’Dell of Holy Cross. Coiffard is 7-of-17 from behind the arc this year for a 32.1 percent accuracy. She was held without a three-pointer (0-for-4) for the first time this season at Yale (Nov. 17).

HOME COOKING
Army will play five of its next seven games at home, including a highly anticipated contest against service-academy rival Air Force on the eve of Thanksgiving (Nov. 25).

STANDING TALL
Two of Army’s top three rebounders this season stand 5-3 and 5-6. Junior G Jessie Coiffard (5-6) is second on the team averaging 7.3 rpg, while junior G Nalini Hawkins (5-3) matched her career-high with nine rebounds at Yale (Nov. 17) to bring her season averaged up to 6.3 rpg. Coiffard is tied for fifth in the league rankings and Hawkins for 12th. At 6-2, junior F Erin Anthony leads the league averaging 9.3 rpg.

ANTHONY IN FOCUS
It’s no secret that Army junior F Erin Anthony returns with a heavy weight on her shoulders. Army’s leading scorer (18.7 ppg) and rebounder (9.3 rpg), Anthony has taken on the bulk of focus for opposing defenses to start the season. She currently ranks second in the league in scoring and leads the conference in rebounding as of Nov. 19. With a 27-point effort versus Wagner (Nov. 13) and a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) at Loyola (Nov. 15) already under her belt, she is poised to take on the challenge.

UP NEXT
After Saturday’s contest, Army will enjoy a three-day break from competition in preparation for a Wednesday (Nov. 25) showdown with service-academy rival Air Force at Christl Arena. The Black Knights used a 54-44 win at Air Force last year (Nov. 29) as a launching point for winning nine of their next 10 games.
