WEST POINT, N.Y. - For
the first time in eight years, the Patriot League Volleyball Tournament will
change locations. Previously hosted by eight-time defending champion American,
outright regular-season champion and No. 1 Army will host the four-team event
at West Point this weekend. Fans in attendance will have a chance to win an
HDTV, iPod nano or digital camcorder as a part of a free raffle to promote the
event.
No. 1 Army will face No. 4
Lehigh for the second time in a week, as the Black Knights closed out the
regular season with a 3-1 home victory over the Mountain Hawks. Army and Lehigh
will open the Patriot League Tournament in the first semifinal match on
Saturday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m. No. 2 American and No. 3 Colgate follow in the
second semifinal match at 6 p.m.
The winners advance to
Sunday's (Nov. 22) title match at 4 p.m. with the Patriot League's automatic
bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Army last hosted the tournament in
1994, which is also the last year in which the Black Knights won the title. A
three-time Patriot League Champion (1991, 1992, 1994), Army did so prior to the
conference securing an automatic bid. Therefore, Army has never appeared in the
NCAA Tournament.
All matches will be played at
Gillis Field House and admission is free of charge. Fans may also enter a free
raffle - open to cadets and general public (including ODIA employees) - throughout the weekend with a
chance to win either a 32" flatscreen HDTV, 8GB iPod nano or a 5-megapixel
digital camcorder. Attendees may enter by filling out the available raffle
tickets at Gillis during any one of the three matches. The winners will be
drawn during the break (between sets two and three) in Sunday's championship
match. Winners must be present to win.
Live stats and a live webcast will be available for
all three matches for those unable to attend. Click
