CLARION, Pa.
- Army seniors Richard Starks (197) and Lance Penhale (125) and
freshman Jordan Thome (133) each won individual titles to lead the wrestling
team at the season-opening Clarion Open on Saturday.
"Overall, I thought it was a pretty good effort and a solid
way to start the season," said Black Knight head coach Chuck Barbee. "While we
placed a lot of guys, we still have a lot of work to do once we get back in the
room this week."
Penhale and Thome each swept four matches during the event, while Starks was unbeaten in three bouts.
Two other Army wrestlers place in the top six during the day's non-scoring event. Sophomore Jimmy Rafferty made his way to a fourth-place finish in the 149-pound division, while freshman Patrick Marchetti finished sixth at 157.
The Black Knights will be in action next Saturday, traveling to SUNY Brockport for the Oklahoma-Gold Classic.
